Emphysema

Standard definition of EMPHYSEMA:

This is a condition in which the air sacs of the lungs are enlarged. In severe cases, there is difficulty in breathing. The air sacs lose their elasticity, grow larger, and can no longer function efficiently.

Causes:

Aside from smoking the causes are unclear. The symptoms are variable. In a mild form people may not even be aware of having emphysema. In severe cases there is shortness of breath or wheezing, bluish skin and a chronic cough.

Good news! Emphysema releases to a large degree as you learn to breathe fuller and for longer periods of time. My own impression with this problem called emphysema is that the lungs lose their relationship with the diaphragm because of a collapse of the upper body. When you learn to breathe fuller this alignment is reestablished.

In the cases I have treated There has been dramatic turnarounds in the first session. This is from learning how to breathe. In very severe cases, where there is a respirator being used for breathing the person should work with a physical therapist to guide them into longer periods of breathing.

You can work with the session on full breathing to get started with helping your body to expand more with breath.
