How We View Our Body
What is
done by ourselves can be undone by ourselves.
~~~Paramahansa Yogananda (1893-1952)~~~
It is accurate to view our body as remarkable in both its structure and the way that it can perform in time and space. Our body is a dynamic of Divine nature itself and is our true friend. A friend that will help us when we feed the wisdom of understanding to our bodies.
The way we think about and view our body is important for the transformation of our body and mind. One of our difficulties in working with and examining our body would be that our body could be a big mystery to us. That mystery is developed from the impressions about the body that we are given by the world around us.
The way in which we view the body is based on the stream of information from the media which constantly up dates us with warnings about this and that of the body. We are told what we are supposed to do for such and such potential health hazard or illness. We listen to health news that can leave us with the impression that we have to watch out for our body. This manifests as concern and worry about what and how we are feeling in the body. All the different sensations that our body can have in a day are puzzling and viewed with suspicion rather than interest and inquisitiveness.
We are told so many things about the body by our friends and family who seem so well intended yet may have very little holistic knowledge of the body. We may get taken in by their apparent sincerity and decide that they are right. If our investigation about our own body is left to hearsay we will be left with doubt and fear of our own body.
Many people are reliant on Medicaid and Medicare to feel shielded from physical problems. If their mysterious body has an ache or pain they can afford a medical solution. The solution generally is trying to get rid of the problem either with pills or surgical removal.
I spoke with a man who was very comfortable with going for knee replacement. He walked across the street, with no real discernable limp or apparent discomfort, to talk to me. When I asked him why he was considering this severe remedy he said his knee bothered him sometimes! If he saw a video of knee replacement surgery, he might reconsider.
Medical treatment is standard for sprains, broken bones and other obvious traumas the are immediately apparent. But there are many things that arise in us that are the results of a lifetime of poor alignment and inaccurate views about the body. Body problems are workable when you start applying alignment and develop faith that you can heal your self. We get aches or body sensations and start to worry about them rather then applying breath and creating space in our body so everything can move and heal.
Five decades of experience by members of our community suggests that most health problems are directly workable by understanding your alignment and your breathing. This does not mean that medical attention of a physical problem is unwarranted since, the information is always interesting to examine in relationship to working with natural holistic principles. We have many options before any trauma is imposed on our dear, wonderful body. The findings of many doctors today can be seen in the statements of Dr. Benson “I believe that in 60-90 percent of doctors’ visits, remembered wellness and other self-care techniques which include exercise, nutrition, and stress management could be the treatments of choice.” – Dr Herbert Benson, Mind/Body Medical Institute professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
Knowing that we can work with our own body to make it healthier is a useful reflection for us and will raise our comfort level and relationship with our body. There is a way that we can take care of our bodies and develop an understanding of how to handle all the different episodes that visit us, whether it is a sneeze a pain or some emotional impact.
In our book on Alignment, which presents the principles of alignment for us to use, you will grow to appreciate how wonderful the body truly is as a guide to health and comfort once we tune in to our own fields of natures intelligence's.
Thank you for reading this and considering natural health initiatives.
